Nappy Lee is an early Jordan work composed in St. Louis, Missouri in proximity to the likes of and perhaps influenced by Scott Joplin and Thomas Million Turpin before he went on to achieve fame and glory in Chicago. Who or what Nappy Lee was remains an almost 100-year old ragtime mystery the plain un-illustrated cover of the original sheet music not giving the slightest inkling. The rag itself is a bright affair with enjoyable AABBAC strains. The C-strain in particular has nice touches for both the treble and bass phrases.
A tempo of 86 crotchets/min. is suggested.
