Length: approx. 3½ mins. Sounds best if the first tenor is doubled.
Pine Apple Rag was "Respectfully dedicated to the Five Musical Spillers" reflecting on his close friendship with one William Spiller. This work is a straight-up-and-down joyful "classic" rag, the second section being particularly "ragged", fitting well into any ragtime programme.
Pine Apple Rag was published by Seminary Music Co., New York, USA, and a piano roll made.
Joplin sets a tempo of 100 crotchets/min. which appears much too fast and uncomfortable, a more leisurely 80-84 is suggested.
