Length: approx. 3 mins. Sounds best if 1st tenor is doubled.
Maple Leaf Rag is without doubt the most famous, and certainly the most played, of all Joplin rags. After its first appearance in the Sedalia shops in 1899, 75.000 copies were sold within six months. It was not many years until over a million copies had been sold and it remained in print when nearly all other ragtime compositions were forgotten. This rag is really quite remarkable and perhaps the only one that benefits from fast playing - the arpeggios are a joy!
This adaptation for recorder requires some pretty nifty instrument changing in the 1st voice (descant + bass) - should this prove too demanding then the problem can be solved by employing a 3rd bass.
Maple Leaf Rag was published by Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and a piano roll produced.
A tempo of 104 crotchets/min. is suggested.
This recorder adaption is respectfully dedicated to Harmonic Brass Munich.
