Under the Southern Moon is a charming two step with romantic and sentimental melodies appropriate to the title and illustrated on the front cover of the original sheet music by elegant courting couples spooning under a full moon in a riverside setting. As to the composition itself, the adaptation for recorder quintet it is an all tenor/bass affair. Its form is AABBACCCC with a 4-bar introduction and an 8-bar interlude equally separating the CCCC strains whereby the AABBA- and CCCC-strains are written in the major keys of F and Bb respectively.
Under the Southern Moon was published Chas. L. Johnson Publishing Co., Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
