May Irwin's Ragtime Dance is a happy composition in ABACDC form with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AB- and CD-strains are written in the major keys of F and Bb respectively. The oddity as given in subtitle? Who knows but perhaps it is that the A-strain is of 20 bars whilst the other strains have the more usual 16 bars. This adaptation for recorder sextet is a tenors delight, the 1st tenor having the honour and pleasure of taking the melodies from start to finish.
May Irwin's Ragtime Dance was published by G. W. Setchell, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
