Just Ask Me is another pleasant light-hearted Hunter rag. Its form is AABBCCD progressing through the major keys of C, Ab and Db. The strains being in the lower registers make this recorder adaptation especially soft and sonorous requiring thoughtful interpretation in bringing out the melodic line distinctly. The title Just Ask Me is the motif of the front cover of the original sheet music whereby a diminutive Negro girl is shown getting stuck into a slice of melon almost as large as herself with obvious enjoyment whilst her equally diminutive friend looks on enviously . The lucky diner is no doubt challenging her friend to "just ask" for the pleasure of partaking in the pleasure of the sumptuous fruit.
Just Ask Me was published by Frank G. Fite, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
A tempo of 150 crotchets/min. is suggested.
