Length: approx. 2¼ mins.
Topsy Turvy is a lively two step which charms with its simplicity. Its form is AABCC with an 8-bar introduction and two interludes each of 4 and 10 bars between the BC and CC strains respectively. The A-strain is characterised by a de-dah-de dah dah motif. The B-strain by contrast is more lyrical with a couple of nice walking bass passages. The C-strain returns to the de-dah-de dah dah motif exploring the lower registers and, after the 10-bar interlude, is then repeated an octave higher bringing the whole to a triumphant conclusion.
Topsy Turvy was published by Whitney-Warner Publishing Co., Detroit, Michigan, USA.
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
