Bull Dog Rag was respectfully dedicated to W. C. Reinhardt. Well this slow drag can certainly be described as a syncopated and free-wheeling folk rag. Its form is ABCDEF with a 10-bar introduction in the recorder players' favourite keys having 3 and 4 flats. There are no repeats and as with Dobyn's other rags precise tonguing by all voices is absolutely essential to achieve the desired effect - there can be no slurring here. A rewarding piece to master!
