Along with all other Confrey "novelties", You Tell 'Em Ivories, is no exception in its heavy demands on the performer. The piece opens with a kind of melody reminiscent of a pair of young people whistling (sounds really great with descant, treble and tenor recorders sharing honours) leading into triplet passages hinting of the things to come in his fantastic Coaxing the Piano which was published a year later. In fact with both these works judging by their titles, Confrey clearly showed who the boss was in his relationship with his chosen instrument.
You Tell 'Em Ivories was published by Jack Mills Inc., New York, USA.
A tempo of 150 crotchets/min. is suggested.
