With its tripling triplets in the opening strain, Young April reminds one of the more famous Nola (1915) which was written by Felix Arndt and published in the same year. Its form is AABBACC whereby the A-, B- and C-strains are written in the recorder players' favourite flatted keys of Ab, Eb and Db respectively. The A- and B-strains are each 8 bars long whilst the C-strain has 16 bars. A charming composition ideal for springtime recitals!
Young April was published in Cadenza by Walter Jacobs, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 120 crotchets/min. is suggested.
