Rubber Plant Rag, beautifully illustrated on the cover of the original sheet music, is a jolly romp of a rag. Its form is AABBACC with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of C and F respectively. In this adaptation for recorder quintet, the A-strain, a burbling solo, is taken by the 2nd tenor for its 3rd iteration allowing ample opportunity for the 1st tenor to alternate to treble. It is honours even for the B-strain whilst for the C-strain, a charming cascade, the 1st tenor and bass come to the fore. A great ensemble piece!
Rubber Plant Rag was published by Walter Jacobs, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
