The Chauffeur is a light-hearted, breezy march two step, its spirit quite in keeping with the illustration on the cover of the original sheet music which shows an eager be-goggled young man briskly bowling along the highway raising up the dust behind him. The piece itself is in a sonata form of AABBACCA with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the CA sections. It has some nice touches, particularly for my taste where there is dialogue between the melody and rhythm sections in the B-strain.
The Chauffeur was published by The Vinton Music Publishing Co., Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
A tempo of 76 crotchets/min. is suggested.
