Growls is more of a snappy rag than a growling one. It's form is ABACDCD whereby the AB- and CD- strains are in the major flatted keys of Bb and Eb respectively. The melodies are shared by the descant and treble voices . The score is devoid of dynamics and there is very little ornamentation. The cover of the original sheet music appropriately shows a chained bulldog straining on his leash to see off a ragged itinerant.
Growls was published by Joseph Krolage Music Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
