Mandy's Broadway Stroll has the distinction of being the first published rag in Nashville and was widely admired for its pleasing "strolling" character. Its form is AABBCAB with a 4-bar introduction whereby the C-strain is of some 40 bars the others having 16. The basses have not one bar of syncopation in the whole piece (that noble task being left to the treble and tenors) but provide a steady, even um-pah throughout. With a subtitle such as A Genuine Rag-Time March, one wonders who were the implied fraudsters and what did the counterfeits sound like!
Mandy's Broadway Stroll was published by H.A. French, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
A tempo of 148 crotchets/min. is suggested.
