According to The Oxford Companion to Music, Francesco Maria Veracini was a violinist and composer of instrumental music. He was considered by Tartini at one time to be his superior as a player and lived in Venice, Dresden, and Prague and spent a good deal of time in London. At Dresden, from vexation at the behaviour of a rival or insanity (or both) he threw himself out of a high-window. However, he merely maimed himself and lived for nearly another thirty years. many considered him to be the worlds greatest violinist.
