Theodore Moses Tobiani was a German-born American composer, arranger and violinist. He was brought to America as a child but he later returned to Europe to complete his musical education. On returning to the USA in 1870 he worked in Philadelphia as a composer and performer. He is said to have composed more than 550 pieces and made over 4500 arrangements. In company with many of his contemporaries, he used pseudonyms (Florence Reed, Andrew Herman and Theodore Moses) under which many of his works were published. His best known work is of course that enduring Hearts and Flowers but his band arrangements continue to be played in the world of brass.
