According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Giuseppe Tartini was an Italian violinist and composer, founder of a famous school for violin playing. Travelled much in Italy, and for three years worked in Prague. Wrote concertos and sonatas (including the "Devil's Trill") for violin; also trio sonatas, church music etc. Improved the violin bow. Also author of theoretical writings on music and discoverer of what modern acoustics calls "Resultant Tones".
