According to The Oxford Companion to Music, Johannes Abraham Peter Schulz was a German composer and musical director at the Danish Court in the late 1780's and early 1790's. He was much influenced in his compositions by Danish folk music and wrote songs and Singspiele in that style. His work marks an epoch in Danish musical history and from his period the Singspiel remained for some time a popular form of entertainment in Denmark.
