According to the Internet source given below, Johann Schop was a German violinist and compose, born and died in Hamburg. In 1615 he joined the court orchestra in Wolfenbüttel in 1615 as a performer of violin, lute, trumpet and zinke. In 1664 he became director of music at Hamburg having been a "Ratsmusikant" since 1654. He wrote instrumental music and many hymn-tunes, some of which were for the hymns of his townsman and friend Johann Rist.
