Jacapo Peri  (1561-1633)

According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Jacapo Peri was an Italian composer who wrote the first real operas to be staged, Daphne (1597), Eurydice (1600) and others; also composed ballets, madrigals, etc. Was a priest in service to the Medici family.
