According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Giovanni Paisiello was an Italian composer who worked in Petersburg (court of Catherine the Great), Paris (Napoleon) and Naples. He wrote more than 100 operas, symphonies, church music, etc. A friend of and influenced Wolfgang A. Mozart.
