Jean de Ockeghem was, according to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, a Flemish composer in the service of the French court; also visited Spain. Of great influence; called the Prince of Music in his own day; his pupils include Josquin des Préz. Wrote Masses and motets, sometimes choosing a secular tune as Cantus Firmus; wrote also French chansons.
