According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Matthew Locke [also Lock] was an English composer, in service to Charles II, 1661; also a pamphlet defending his own "modern" style. Wrote music for the masque "Cupid and Death" (with C. Gibbons); also wrote opera "The Siege of Rhodes" (with others), songs, church music, works for violins and viols.
