According to the Internet source given below, Jiri Laburda was born in Sobeslav. Between 1952 and 1955 he studied at the Pedagogical Faculty of Prague's Charles University, specialising in musical education and philology and later at the Prague Teacher Training College (1957 -1961). He was much influenced by the Czech composers Karel Haba and Zdenek Hula. His works include a ballet, orchestral and symphonic compositions, cantatas, choral music, chamber music and songs.
