According to a sleeve note (BIS LP-48 Stereo), Jacob van Eyck was employed as a musician at a church in Utrecht. One of his duties was to entertain people walking in the churchyard on his recorder. He wrote a collection of pieces for his instrument with the title "Der Fluiten Lusthof". The collection consists almost exclusively of contemporary melodies (both sacred and secular, often by well-known composers), which he has provided with artful variations.
