According to the Internet source given below, Herbert Lincoln Clarke was an American cornet player, bandmaster, and composer born in Woburn, Massachusetts. He enjoyed a successful career as soloist with many illustrious orchestras and bands of his day including John Philip Sousa's Band, the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. He is still widely regarded as one of the greatest cornet soloists of all time. An educator, he wrote a number of tutors and also made definitive recordings for Victor, Edison, Columbia and Brunswick. He died in Long Beach, California.
