Gustave Charpentier  (1860-1956)
Last updated: 17.12.23
For me, Gustave Charpentier, is synonymous with the European Anthem, which is played European Broadcasting Union on all notable events such as the European Song Contest for example.
According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Gustave Charpentier was a French composer, pupil of Massenet; who wrote notably successful opera "Louise" and unsuccessful sequel "Julien". Expressed his sympathy for the socially underprivileged both in these works and in founding a music school for working-class girls. Wrote also orchestral "Impressions of Italy", songs, etc.
