p_bernieb.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, Ben Bernie was an American jazz violinist, bandleader, and radio personality, often introduced as "The Old Maestro". He was noted for his showmanship and memorable bits of snappy dialogue, being part of the first generation of "stars" of American popular music.
He studied at Columbia University and the New York College of Music. Bernie performed in vaudeville and formed own band, The Lads. Bernie's orchestra recorded on Vocalion, Brunswick, Columbia, Decca and ARC (Vocalion and OKeh) in the 1920's and 1930's.He co-authored Sweet Georgia Brown (1925) with Maceo Pinkard (words by Kenneth Casey) and which was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York & Detroit, USA.Ben Bernie and his orchestra recorded Sweet Georgia Brown which became a jazz standard.
