Theron Catlan Bennett was an American composer, lyricist and publisher of popular music born in Pierce City, Missouri, the only son of a prominent citizen of that town, one George N. Bennett who was engaged in the pharmacy business. Initially Bennett worked for the Chicago publisher Victor Kremer before establishing his own publishing enterprise. He made his mark in 1904 with St. Louis Tickle which was a huge success, enormously popular in its day and which is still recorded right up to the present. In common with many of his contemporaries he wrote under a number of pseudonyms including Barney & Seymore and George E. Florence. Of ragtime interest he is known for his Chills and Fever Rag (1912) and Some Blues, For You All (1916) and also managed the famous Dutch Mill in the silver-mining town of Denver, Colorado.
