Thomas Arne was, according to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, an English composer mainly of operas, other stage works, and songs; also or oratorio and masques. Composed much music for the London pleasure gardens, Drury Lane Theatre, etc. D.Mus., Oxford, 1759. Was generally known as Dr Arne. Michael Arne was his illegitimate son.
