According to the Internet source given below, Egbert Anson Van Alstyne was an American songwriter and pianist, who was born in Marengo, Illinois. Initially on the Vaudeville circuit he later moved to New York City to work in Tin Pan Alley. His first success was Navajo", Harry H. Williams being the lyricist, which was introduced in the Broadway musical Nancy Brown in 1903. Their best remembered song is In The Shade of the Old Apple Tree" (1905). He composed a number of rags of which Honey Rag (1909 - DBE 562) is best known. He also recorded a number of piano rolls.
