Petrus Alamire  (147?-153?)

According to the Internet source given below, Petrus Alamire should be better described as a music copyist of German origin and whose real Name was probably Petrus Imhoff. He is supposed to have been an English spy working in the Spanish Netherlands and produced particularly beautiful and elaborate books which have been well-preserved. It is assumed that he collected the contained works, amounting to 850 works in 48 choir books, before his arrival in the Netherlands. He was well-known throughout Europe.
