My lyric and melody sources are given in list of Canadian Songbooks and there is list of Canadian CDs.
Vive la Compagnie!
These Canadian webpages have been inspired by and are dedicated to the composer Jean Chatillon. Although already an admirer of Stan Rogers, I knew absolutely nothing about French-Canadian folk music. This was completely changed when I swapped CDs with the composer back in June 2004 when he also sent me a copy of his Nouveaux Duos Folkloriques. All the 20 Quebec folksongs therein are listed in the song table. Whilst it highly unlikely that I shall ever sing them in public because of my awful French, I spent at least two months tracking down the lyrics and working through the melodies both with recorder and concertina. An immense source of private enjoyment. The tongue twister Les petits Latour in particular enthrals me. That is indeed a song that I would just love to be able to sing. Thanks a million, Jean!!
Geoff Grainger, March 2005.
In March, 2006, Jean sent me his Dix Trios Folkloriques which contains a further 10 French-Canadian folk songs very prettily arranged for recorder trio. I was so enchanted that I finally got round to sequence them, with Jean's permission, as midi files. At sometime in the not too far future, I intend to sequence the rest.
