Personal remarks:
Along with Teach Yourself Malay, this much battered and heavily used book spent several of its early years in my Ditty Box. Today it grace my library shelves more out of sentiment than of practical use. It is a splendid. old-fashioned book of the Teach Yourself series and well lived up to its name. It enabled me to enhance my school German and later lead me on to its companion volume, Teach Yourself More German.
The cover and its publisher's blurb vanished, probably at sea 4 decades ago (writing in 2003) but its antique style sub-title gives you, dear surfer, a feeling for the content to whit:
A book of self-instruction in German based on the work by Sir John Adams, M.A., LL.D, completely revised and enlarged by Sydney W. Wells, B.A., and further revised by E.S. Jenkins, B.A.
